Choya Is Out of The Woods!

On Day 17 after the monkey attack (Day 10 was the in-clinic review and an ultrasound), an email attached with photos of Choya’s newly healed belly wound was sent to Companion’s surgical team. Her doctor took a look and finally gave her the all-clear to ditch her cones, and to hit water. Wooohooo. I am so so so relieved. She is out of the woods. I will have to watch for sudden abscesses though.

I'm thankful that the thunderstorms didn't exactly return in full force till a week into May. With God's grace, she had that first week to recuperate — that period only saw light rain and low thunder, nothing frightening to her or made her lose her appetite. The second week brought the full sharp thunderclaps and full-on storms. It wouldn't have done her good to have a high cortisol level alongside her cocktail of drugs, and also to have her be so anxious and run about, stretching out her raw wounds. It would have slowed her healing speed and it would be inflamed for another week.

She's almost back to her full stamina and running speed. She can most definitely jump. Those leaps are at a crazy height and she was put out that we didn't allow her to jump earlier. She walks and plays as she always does. Her temperament is fine around dogs and humans. She doesn't seem to be traumatized over the attack. Well, till she sees another monkey, I suppose. KNN.

While the doctor gave the green light for swimming, I'm not sure I want to take her. We'll see. She isn't keen on seawater, and we haven't taken her anywhere else to swim. She has only known the pool at school. The belly fur will take some time to grow and she should not go to school till the fur grows out a bit more. She’s good for a bath and a nail trim at the groomer’s this weekend. She's getting a bit stinky. The fur between her paws needs trimming too.

What an episode. WTF. Choya should never have to suffer these types of injuries again. I'll give in to all my what-ifs from now on. Never call me paranoid again.
