Small Stuff Steps for the Dog

Ditched the Pet Gear ramp (passed it to a handsome senior boy named Chonks), and bought a hefty two-step from Small Stuff which has a distributor in vanillapup. Choya was fine using the ramp to come up onto the bed, but she was a bit fearful of coming down. I suppose her depth perception ain't great in the night.

The moment I swopped out the ramp for the steps, she used it. She's definitely more confident with steps. Our bed is extra high (gotta maximize storage space in it), and while she doesn't sleep with us on the bed, she needs it for... comfort. She has decided on her own method of waking Momma. These steps are to aid her to wake me up in the nights when she needs to go out to poop or if she's frightened from the impending storm/thunder and wants me to go to hide in the study with her. Or she just pops up to stare at me sleep, till I wake to give her a head rub. Damn creepy.

On rainy days, if we're chilling out on the bed, she might come up to sit with us. I leave her that option. Sometimes she takes it, but she mostly hides in the bathroom or under the tables. She's not one for cuddles, so she just wants to be near enough to us to feel safe. I'm so glad that steps arrived before the weekend she was injured. (The item was already stocked in Singapore.) She wouldn't have done well with the ramp. During this period, even with her tender wound, she could still use the steps to come up and down on her own, and not overstretch the healing skin.

We still have no camera installed at home to watch her when she's left alone. Hurhurhur. No need lah. We're not curious. We haven't found her in our bed when we return home. She's usually in her preferred spots on the floor. She seems to respect that (bed) space as ours and doesn't come up unless she's invited. My bears are still wary of her though, although they haven't been gnawed or nibbled at... yet.

When she was in her second week of healing her belly wound, with the ThunderShirt and one of us watching her, she doesn't need to wear cones. She can freely move around. Oof. On some days of light rain, she doesn't need the ThunderShirt at all. She'll simply keep us within sight. She has no issues with heavy rain. She just hates the thunder; she has come to expect storms with the accompanying lightning and rather loud thunderclaps.

The steps are rather aesthetically pleasing, and definitely fits the neutral color scheme of the bedroom. It's a one-piece two-step; no assembly required. It can be easily moved around the flat. The cutest thing about these steps — there's a tiny space underneath, of which she likes. She discovered that rather quickly. She likes to sprawl in it when she's cone-free. If she can't squish her head + cone in, she'll stick two paws or her tail in there. Heh. Okay, whatever you want, little girl. It's a narrow space but she's small and seems to fit fine.
