Hopped over to the friends' for dinner. Didn't bother with delivery. We ordered from Enjoy Eating House and Bar over WhatsApp, and picked it up at its Jalan Besar outlet at Kam Leng Hotel. It was way more convenient for us to go to the restaurant than to stay home and wait for delivery at a not-ideal timing; there was a nice 20% discount off for our order because we picked it up.
We had easy dishes and comfort food for the evening. Ugly cabbage in fish sauce was a must. Beef tenderloin with foie gras, BBQ pork chee, har cheong gai wings, and XO white fish soup. We didn't bother to cook rice since there were sufficient carbs in the form of pig's trotters beehoon. The seafood hor fun was very weird. It came with crispy 'crackers' to be dunked in the gravy. Hmmm. Ugh. I was hoping for soft hor fun! Dohhh. Oddly the food matched the lovely bottle of Beaujolais (Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette 2019).
The friends also bought two boxes of rojak from Whampoa Market & Food Center. WOW! One box was spicy, and the other was less spicy. This is the stall I keep hearing about, but I've never managed to try it! It's Mun Theng Fang Rojak (滿婷芳羅惹) at #01-87. I really like rojak, and this version is fabulous. I ate half the box and a bit more! They said that this stall uses the the unopened buds of the bunga kantan, and that added loads of flavors to the gravy.
Dessert was a rich and rounded Super Tuscan (Il Ponte Balto 2018) with happy little slices of gouda. Tai Cheong egg tarts were heated up, and the man happily quaffed one. He almost gave in to the offer of a second tart. HAHAHAH. Well, that would have just been paid with only 50 press-ups. :P It was so nice to chill out and watch random live shows, checking out Stevie Nicks and The Pretenders, and all those London shows we didn't get to watch, and we might never get to do so.
