Wandered to Ritual to see how it has adapted to the new rules. It's a gym focusing on HIIT classes. I didn't expect them to pivot (yes that word again), and open up classes. I wonder how that would go. I thought long and hard before popping in for two classes.
From 10 persons in a class, it's now down to 6, face masks to be kept on throughout. Classes run every hour instead of every 30 minutes, and it's closed during the off-peak period. Of course the low-intensity and no equipment rule applies. The same exercises had three difficulty levels as well, and we could do whichever, depending on the mood. There were only two of us (the man and I) at both classes! They were effectively a ‘private’ class. Heh.
For people who love the high intensity and that out of breath feeling after a workout might not enjoy this new program so much. But hey, it's a different way of working out then. The focus is on getting the form perfect and focusing a lot more on the core. For me, it still works because I'm very used to mat pilates, and these options, even at Level 3, to be honest, aren't as strenuous as one mat pilates class.I appreciate the gym for doing what they can in this situation. It's our own comfort level versus keeping an eye on the community infections. We balance out our risks. Life still goes on. There's no fail-safe plan against the virus. We do what we can, and keep up with the hygiene practices and social distancing. Till there's a total lockdown, anyway.
These are exercises one could easily do at home, except often, I don't really have the discipline to do so. The last two classes were empty except for the man and I, so that worked nicely as though they were private classes. We kept our masks on, and focused on stretching out. We were reminded to manage our breathing and pace ourselves. It's very nice to do a class to a IRL instructor's voice and corrections.
