I'm getting very fond of these Cuitisan stainless steel food boxes. I was eyeing them for a while ever since the BFF mentioned it. When Tangs had a sale, I bought a stack of these boxes in different sizes.
I love how technology has evolved. These are made of stainless steel alloy of chrome and copper, making the boxes microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe and freezer-safe. They're lighter than glass containers. It's PERFECT. I use the microwave oven loads to heat up food still. So I do need all the food containers at home to be sturdy enough for all purposes.
Even before the pandemic hit and restaurants and food centers closed for dine-in, I already take my containers to tapau food. My own containers are just better at preventing spillage during transport. They keep the food better too. However, tiffin carriers aren't the best for transporting liquids; soup and gravy in glass containers can be ridiculously hot. Stainless steel containers are equally scalding, but much more secure in terms of handling.
Once the Cuitisan containers are delivered and washed, I took them to tapau food from the food centers. The containers fit nicely into my carrier bags too. The food stalls love it. It's so easy to handle and they needn't worry about breakage. The round containers (No.6 in 920ml) are great for a small portion of congee or soup. The rectangle (No. 5 in 580ml) boxes are good for point-point rice; one size up in 980ml is a tad big.
Tried and tested — a 920ml container fits 12 pieces of siew mai. Hahaha. However, I still have to reassure the fish soup stalls that I really don't mind less soup in my container because they keep complaining that my containers aren't big enough. One stall in particular (Mei Xiang Black & White Fish Soup at Berseh Food Center) is really generous with the soup and fish and stuff. They insist on customers using thier 1-liter plastic bowls. I'm like, I should bring an actual pot over the next time I want to get a bowl of fish soup beehoon. I dare the stall to complain about a giant POT. 😂
