So stoked that this event was officially pet-friendly. Got us tickets in a heartbeat. Branded under Barkifest/Archifest, Brass Lion Distillery hosted a pets' day out at their newly-renovated Gin Garden. It would also be the first visit to the distillery for the man and I. We haven't had a chance to hang out its tasting room for a drink, so the Gin Garden outdoors on the ground level would do fine today. 🦁🦊🍸
There was something in the confirmation email about Halloween. But Halloween isn't something I bother with. I never bother dressing up, and I'm most certainly not going to dress Choya in any Halloween costumes. It's too damn hot in Singapore to dress up and hang out in the afternoon sun. Put a Tailor Woof Halloween bow-tie on Choya and off we went.
There were two slots for participants at 2pm and 5pm. We took the 5pm so that it would be less hot. It was still super humid. OMG. There were only two standing fans. That was totally insufficient against Singapore's brutal heat. Another four fans would be nice. The small little backyard/garden held 16 tables. At this moment of pandemic restrictions, of course we could only have two humans per table.
Our tickets included a complimentary cocktail, and we topped up for a guided gin flight. The man and I inhaled our complimentary glasses that used their colored Butterfly Pea and lavender gin. It was a rather warm day lah. Ordered another round of drinks but that took ages to arrive. Our host took us through Brass Lion Distillery's expressions — Singapore Dry, Butterfly Pea, Pahit Pink, Navy Strength, Barrel Aged, and one seasonal. The seasonal gin tonight was an IPA-influenced hoppy version in a collab with LeVeL33. I'm a boring gin drinker. I cannot deal with star anise or spices in my drinks. For this distillery, I'll stick to their Singapore Dry or Butterfly Pea. We went home with a bottle of Singapore Dry.
The distillery's food menu is currently limited, and the kitchen is still understaffed. The drinks took pretty long to arrive, and the food (small laksa pizza and six raw oysters) took an even longer time to appear; the online ordering system is wonky. So I wouldn't bank on having actual food or dinner here. It's a lovely place for late afternoon cocktails, or pre-dinner drinks. The distillery indicated that the Gin Garden would be pet-friendly, but I don't know if it's indeed so. We said hi to other floofies and some humans. We had a quiet corner table, and plenty of clean floor space for the dog. Choya was quite comfortable chilling in the corner.
