I go by Fortune Center quite a bit for lunch. I love it at dinner at the tiny izakaya, but that usually requires alcohol, the restaurants' rules. At lunch, there's always something to eat. It's got great vegetarian options, an okay dim sum eatery, and now a Muslim stall. Also stumbled upon this tiny little eatery on the second floor that does pretty decent fish soup. It's called Diner's Shack.
The sliced mackerel (batang) soup is chockfull of vegetables, but I always add additional bittergourd and minced pork to it. You could add a portion of rice to this, but I don't know if it comes with noodles or thick beehoon since I never bother to add that. Just the ingredients and soup work for me. I've popped in for a few times now, and the decent-enough soup makes for a light and satisfying lunch.
The menu is extremely limited. There's usually curry chicken with rice, but not the curry fish. I think there's usually chicken chop. The dumpling soup is not a daily thing either. So if you do go, brace yourself for just fish soup on the menu. Everything else on the menu is dependent on the kitchen's mood and available ingredients. Don't try your luck there if you don't take ikan batang or soup.
To beat the week day office lunch crowd, turn up at your preferred eateries at Fortune Center by 11.45am please. Try to get to Diner's Shack by 11.40am. Yes, that five minutes make a huge difference. If you turn up at noon, the wait is 10 minutes to queue to order food, and it takes 20 minutes or more for the food to arrive. The eatery takes about 28 persons. There's only one person cooking, and one person serving the customers, taking orders and collecting payment. Ventilation isn't the best either, so don't be in your office best when getting lunch there.
