We had a craving for fish, and decided to sort that out at Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh. We were lazy and forgot about the time. We went late at about 8.20pm, and were the last customers of the day. Luckily we got a table still and the kitchen was willing to cook!
We had a lovely big piece of ikan kurau tail steamed Teochew style, to perfection. Gosh, it was soooo good. Totally hit a spot. The kitchen split the tail gorgeous and removed most of the bones. I was impressed. It was a very neat job; I couldn't have done it better. Even at a coffeeshop, this 500-gram tail now cost $65, a good $10 more than it was when we ordered it last year.
I didn't expect the man to be this hungry. I asked for a portion of sambal sweet potato leaves, and a bowl of pig's stomach soup, but he also added a bowl of soup with lean pork slices, chye buay, tau kee! Yup, he ate them all. Throughout the C+ week and now, he has demonstrated a huge appetite, and he seemed to be hungry all the time. Dunno why. If this was a symptom of Omicron BA.4/5, it's now an after-effect. It's delightful as long he can balance it out with sufficient exercise and HIIT to keep the heart healthy. LOL
