We were in Siglap and decided to stop by Chat Masala for lunch. It was a sizzling day, and the AC in the restaurant was welcomed. I liked how the menu indicated which dishes are spicy. Hahaha. Well, yes, all dishes are spicy, but those marked out ones held more chilli and heat. As they ought to be. Many Indian restaurants also tone down on the spices, which I don't quite appreciate.
We couldn't order a starter platter (of chaats and such) since it was just the man and I. That would be too much. Four fish cutlets? Yes, please. The man ordered a bowl of rasam to share. Had a mutton biryani and a Kerala fish curry (with mackerel). Food was good. The Kerala meen curry was tangy and spicy; it's done exactly how I like it. Lovely!!! I ended up eating a lot more rice with this curry than the mutton. NO REGRETS.
I totally approved of the presentation of the mutton biryani. I like how some restaurants don't mix all the masala, meat and rice together, and let us sort that out. I prefer a ratio of less masala to rice. So this was nice. And the kitchen did a really tasty version of mutton — delicately spiced and tender.. I'm not a fan of mutton, but the man is. He totally enjoyed that.
The portions were uhhh... big. These portions could definitely be shared by three to four diners. Of course the food was a tad much for us, and we had enough leftovers to pack them up for the man's lunch the next day.
