Slow-Cooked Pork Short Ribs & Seared Lamb Chops at Volare

Decided to have dinner at Volare when they trotted out a dinner menu with wine pairing. Sometimes, these dinners work for us when they're casual, and we can have a table outdoors (😉). I don't mind that we just do glasses of wine instead of a whole bottle. Heh!

We started with canapés and nibbles, and a glass of super-sweet asti spumante, then moved on to a soup of seafood cartoccio with spring onion sauce. The man had a few emails to clear, so he took the laptop along. Just as well we sat outdoors away from the main crowd. We didn't have to schmooze and we could simply eat and drink and type away on our phones and laptop uninterrupted.in peace.

The pasta of orecchiette held slow-cooked pork short ribs in a tomato base. The meat was ridiculously tender. That was a delicious pasta! Then roasted lamb chops came out with BBQ sauce and zucchini parmigiana. Two lovely reds accompanied the hearty pasta and lamb chops — a Domenico Clerico Barolo DOCG 2018 and a Roccolo Grassi Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico DOC 2016. Of course the Amarone is the crowd-pleaser.

There was wine pairing tonight. I enjoyed the reds a fair bit. I didn't particularly bother about the whites. I'm not too discerning about them since whites always give me headaches. I didn't finish the whites. The asti spumante is a moscato and I dislike those quite a bit. The man enjoyed the white and the riesling.

I definitely prefer having wine dinners at a venue that I don't have to dress up for. I like these pairing meals casual, more like homestyle dining. That's actually hard to track down since many wine dinners are close to formal and held in stuffy restaurants. Good food and wine, I'm sure, but those aren't my vibes. I also find it very difficult to listen to people talk in these settings. I would rather read the information on my phone or off of a printed set of notes.
