Back from their ski trip in Dolomites, got over jet lag quickly, and all refreshed, N and B had everyone gather for a dinner party to celebrate the first month of the new year. We ate plenty. Drank many bottles. Luckily I had popped an antihistamine and BounceBack pills.
There was already a giant appetizer board of charcuterie, cheese and smoked trout. N actually stripped the smoked trout and picked out the bones by hand to make a bowl of lovingly shredded fish. Ahhhhh, this woman is too sweet. Then there was a beautiful pile of breaded and thinly sliced pork schnitzel to go with the mains in case seafood wasn't for everyone.
She considered doing two mains of pasta and a risotto. I told her NO. She doesn't run a restaurant, and P already brought two tasty pizzas that comprised all the additional carbs necessary. Adding a risotto would be too much of a carb hit and there would be tons of leftovers. Although it was a full table, we honestly couldn't eat that much. So she obediently skipped making the risotto. Gosh.
The seafood pasta was delicious. It was a simple squid ink spaghetti tossed aglio e olio with prawns and scallops and squid rings. That was super satisfying. Of course loads of champagne and red wine accompanied us tonight. Before we know it, this is already mid-January. Another year will simply whoosh by.
