Happiness is gleaned from eating a good biryani. Our dear friends who love Indian food and have lived in Singapore for slightly over a decade, didn't know Shahi Maharani existed. We had to correct that and took them out for B's super belated birthday dinner.
Shahi Maharani at Raffles City is still good. There have been ups and downs, but in the recent years, it's always been up and a decent churn from the kitchen. July to September isn't a good time to come by this area during the weekends because of the road closures for National Day Parade rehearsals and previews, as well as F1. Gaaah. But the train station is right below Raffles City, so it isn't that bad coming to the restaurant on a weekend.
We were here for the prawn biryani. It totally hit a spot. There's this contentious issue of raisins in biryani. N was saying that many places put them in and she doesn't like that. I'm like, WHY WOULD ANYONE PUT RAISINS IN BIRYANI. That is so not done. That's really for pulao, pilau, pilaf, the sorts.
We ordered the standard sampling menu of a chicken tikka masala, a Raan Sikandari that came as a lamb shank masala, and fish Amritsari (using snapper). Of course there was a basket of garlic naan too. We never knew that B liked dal that much. The dal tadka was ironically ordered as an afterthought. Yet it was totally slurped up. Hahahaha.
Indian food is best shared by a table of four. It's quite a feat to stuff this much food into only two stomachs. A full table makes the eating so much smoother. Tonight, we skipped all the appetizers because those would just take up unnecessary space. Beer and mango lassi went well with the spices. Everyone was so pleased with dinner.
