Took S and her boys N and F out to dinner at Jiak Kim House. It was a celebratory dinner of sorts. The boys had their own starters and mains, and still took our food. LOL Us older folks at this end of the table shared starters and mains, and were completely stuffed.
I always find the prices of alcohol here a bit insane. It's quite obvious that they're hoping for everyone to either order wine or cocktails. The rest of the alcohol pricing didn't make sense to me. As expected, Chef TQ's food is still decent at this juncture.
There were smoked beef tartare, hay-smoked wagyu hamburg, mushroom herbal tea 'macchiato', seer fish otak-otak. I regretted ordering the chilled momotaro somen with scallops and ikura — that was forgettable. They did away with the opeh leaf for the seafood laksa ulam herb fettucine, and it arrived on a plate. Ah well.
We had two servings of the Kam Heong sambal grouper with cilantro rice. That was honestly delicious!!! Loved all the flavors going on in there; the grouper was beautifully oven-baked. We also had the tandoori lamb rack and curried lamb mash for F. Mdm Lee's lotus leaf rice and ayam taliwang. The boys ate all the carbs (rice). LOL
For dessert, we took three portions of Black Forest. The buah keluak ganache was as gorgeous as before. We missed H and T at this table, but there will be a next round. In the meantime, we had two bottles of wine. We would have had two bottles anyway, just that the friends prefer white, and it's always a red for the husband and I.
