Peking Duck, Mi Xian & Chocolates at Yan Ting

Had a belated birthday celebration for SL at the refurbished Yan Ting. Her dietary restrictions meant that few restaurants would happily cater to her requests. Yan Ting does, and they do a great job with the food. The restaurant was given a new coat of paint and lighting. Its menu remains largely untouched, and shifts around with the usual items, as well as meeting our special requests and off-the-menu items.

We were hungry, but not by that much. We knew we might have to tapau home some vermicelli. So be it. Hehehe. We had half a Peking duck, a claypot stir-fry of chives with cashew nuts and fried white bait, seafood vermicelli (mian xian).

I was stuffed! But SL had space for a dessert of osmanthus jelly cake. This version had soft osmanthus flowers. I dislike those that are too dry and end up tasting like hard bits in the mouth. We wanted wine, but didn't feel like ordering from the wine list. I took a look at it. Ermmm... NO. At least I brought a bottle of easy pinot noir. I would rather pay corkage (S$45++ for a bottle of 750ml wine) and drink something decent. The pinot noir went well with the food.

SL had earlier requested the hotel's pastry chef to make a gluten and dairy free orange-pistachio dark chocolate for us. So she also had two bars for me. How lovely! Of course it wasn't exactly meant for eating at the restaurant. We both brought the bars home and broke them into pieces to be kept for daily eating. Heh.
