Little Ozi's 2nd Birthday

Celebrated little Ozi's birthday at Hathaway. We haven't visited its new location at Capital Tower, which is now properly pet-friendly at its sheltered outdoor tables. It replaced Starbucks. There aren't any standing or overhead fans, so it will get stifling hot and humid when the weather turns.

I blinked at the wine list. Very new world, very adventurous in its choices from mainly China and Thailand. We opted for a regular Gusbourne blanc de blancs and many beers. Ordered prudently. Portions are still small and manageable for four persons. It's do-able even for two. There was a small portion of yusheng with meikaiji sashimi (swordfish), so we did a lo-hei.

Little Ozi was very pleased with her birthday 'cake'. She's only 1.6kg and is too tiny to have those cakes for floofs. It would take her weeks to finish even the smallest cupcake. So I decided to make her a birthday platter instead.

I seared cubes of duck breast for her with tiny bits of omelette. Garnished it with a kale leaf. Then there were some blueberries and strawberries she could take home to slowly have nibbles of.

The smoked milkfish soup was okay, but it was too tangy — the tamarind was a bit much. Had fancy razor clams. They came with a bit of uni and were tasty. But we missed the presentation that's quite standard in seafood restaurants- in the shell and with loads of garlic and vermicelli. Hahahahah. The Jicama Pie Tee came in a set of two, so we took four those which were dependably tasty and nothing experimental.

There were rawon beef cheeks and chicken curry kapitan. I wanted a taste of the green starfruit sambal, which was still good but less spicy than its Dempsey days. Had to have a bowl of white rice and also nasi ulam along with those. We even had fries as carbs because SOMEONE on the table LOVES fries and potatoes. Thick cut chips were happily eaten.

Made it to dessert. The table chose to have the barley sorbet and the 'Princess of the Straits'. The barley sorbet was great, and accompanied by passionfruit coulis and topped with a honey biscuit. The 'Princess of the Straits' came in the form of puteri salat and salted gula jawa ice-cream.
