Magpie's Experimental Flavors

We needed somewhere accessible to chill out with the floofs, and it wouldn't be too crazy busy with the festive crowds. The BFF suggested Magpie for dinner since we would have to walk the floofs anyway. The Tiong Bahru estate area makes for a nice stroll. The restaurant was full that evening, but they had a table for us at 7pm.

We didn't over-order at all. We couldn't eat that much. Wisely skipped all appetizers. Nothing in the 'small plates' appealed either. Took a fresh tandoor bread with butter, and a main of barbacoa chicken with mole, pineapple and shiso

Luckily we had the bread. The chicken leaned sweet, and honestly it would have been odd to eat on its own. I would need rice or bread with it. Yeah, chicken; it was a deliberate decision so that the BFF could have most of it. It came served as both breast and thigh meat. Lovely.

An easy bottle of white accompanied the food. Since it was white, I also slyly had the BFF finish more than half the bottle and watched my intake. Too much champagne and white wine gives me this mad migraine that stays through the next day like it's a hangover.

I kinda heard the hype about this restaurant, but the menu was iffy to me. It's packed out now because everyone would like to try the food to see how it pans out for them. I didn't know if I would like Magpie's food. Now that I get a sense of it, I'm not hot about it. It's a lot of hype, and it's not quite to my tastebuds.
