'Cai Yen Yen' at Hue

As more restaurants shut in Singapore, an equally big number of new ones are opening. Don't you feel that there's a crazy number of pizzerias mushrooming? We don't particularly bother to chase after new menus or new names anymore. I have no inclination to sit for hours to try it. If it fits my schedule, and better still, accept my dog, I'll be there. Otherwise, I'm not very bothered to check out new openings.

Popped out for dinner with the friends. We didn't want to hit any crazy crowds at hip restaurants. Went to Jalan Besar. Happy to see Hue still doing all right. It's an unassuming fusion-Thai restaurant. I keep pronouncing it as 'huaa-waay' in the Vietnamese way rather than 'hiwww-ww' in its intended Thai. LOL

I like its 'cai yen yen' which is baby kailan prepared in two ways of fried crisps, and stir-fried at the bottom. It's absolutely delicious. There were vegetable fritters tonight too. Its massaman curry with chicken leg and roti prata is popular. But that's not for me — the curry is sweet! No hint of chillies! Garlic prawns turned up, as well as a grain-fed Angus ribeye steak.

I was super relieved that the kitchen forgot about pomfret fish. Whewwww. Somebody at the table had bigger eyes than his stomach. We were too stuffed to eat anything else even without rice!

To my credit, I didn't even bother with alcohol. I didn't like the offerings here and I wasn't about to do a gin and tonic just for the alcohol. The point was, I didn't feel like drinking tonight. I was happy with a cold glass of Thai milk tea and water.
