Marking Leslie Low's 35 Years in Music :: 'Passing'

I haven't seen or heard Leslie Low in concert for ages. It was a pleasure to hear him at the Esplanade Recital Studio. It started at a clever timing of 5pm, and ended at 7pm.

Themed 'Passing', in celebration of The Substation's 35th anniversary as well as Leslie Low's 35 years in music, this concert was a gathering of old friends, and it was a trip down the memory lane. It has been said that Leslie's songs are 'love letters' to Singapore. So I guess it was apt to hold this in August, almost as if it was part of the National Day celebrations.

Ahhhh, who can forget all the lovely songs Leslie wrote. I surprised myself by remembering too. I liked his solo stuff. But of course I remembered Humpback Oak favorites. I'm less keen on his The Observatory pieces since those aren't quite my kind of music.

Leslie also invited his mates Sean Lam ('Hanging Up the Moon'), and Alexius Cai to join him in the second set. They have known one another for years too, and have great chemistry and harmonies together on the stage.

It was a really lovely afternoon.
