Raised My Histamines at SCALED by Ah Hua Kelong

It had been years since we stepped into SCALED by Ah Hua Kelong. It was a long day and we were hungry. We walked in at 8.30pm and while people were leaving and there were tables available, we opted for the counter seats. Those are a tad less frazzling compared to having to hear the next table's conversation because it'd be impossible to tune them out when they're literally at my elbow's distance.

Husband wanted the smoked seabass pâté. I didn't take so much of it. I'm not a pâté person. It came with nicely buttered and toasted bread. I avoided his Prawn Dashi Aglio Olio. Fried prawn heads and prawn stock??! As much as I like prawns, I couldn't taste more than a bite. It was a full-on histamine grenade. Nope.

Had to have the Batang 'Mui Fan'. I was sold on the nasi ulam and seared batang. The nasi ulam needed a bit more work, but the fish was excellent. I didn't eat that much rice because I wanted to have my carbs in the form of mee hoon kueh. I was ridiculously greedy and wanted to taste the LGM Mee Hoon Kueh. That was full of umami and a total carb bomb. Of course I couldn't finish it. I just wanted to taste it.

The man stuck to beer. I didn't mind a 360ml flask of sake. At least my stomach is neutral with sake (and whisky. Beer and wine, not so much). I had that, super chilled. It went so well with the food.
