Shiny Fish at Sushi Dan

I didn't zoom to SushiDan when it opened. The queues were mad. I suppose for the prices, it's to be expected. When we went at 8pm on a week day night, there was no queue. We simply walked in and perched ourselves at the counter.

The omakase sushi sets are really cheap — only three sets to choose from — $19.90, $29.90 and $34.90. The sets come with 5 or 7 choices of sushi, and a soup and appetizer. Then you could add on some items to it. The order website is a tad glitchy for me (it worked fine for the man and the friends), and I had to put in separate orders to go around it. Tsk tsk.

There's salmon, and akami, and I forgot which part of the tuna belly since I wasn't interested in it. No kinmedai, no madai, but there's engawa. Okay can. What I'm impressed with, is that they bravely offer shiny fish like shime saba and kohada — things that the Singapore crowd isn't interested in. However, the curing of the shiny fish is rough. All I could say is, at least the vinegar they used is half-decent.

I'm not sure if it's even a place I would return for a quick sushi fix. It's really not great. It's pretty much conveyor belt sushi standard (Tokyo). But it would do for a quick and easy lunch if I have no cravings. There're highballs on the menu. Heh.
