Dishing Out The Abalone

[This restaurant closed in March 2011.]

There was abalone freshly flown tonight at Maeshima Sushi. So we ordered the abalone as sashimi. I like those soft ones braised and boiled. But I also don't mind it in its raw form blanched. It's super crunchy.

Since it was the whole abalone, it was served with its emerald green liver. Wheeeee. It's a cholesterol bomb, but so tasty.

Then the chef gave me the shells to take back. The shells stank though. Needed to soak it for at two days. Back at the hotel, it took a lot of scrubbing and soaking in baking soda to rid it of all the eeky stuff on the shell.
