办年货 , 准备拜年

You know my dislike of ang pows.

But I know some of the friends' parents will still insist on handing out ang pows to us. I don't like visiting homes empty-handed. Mandarin oranges no count.

So this year, I've also prepped 'return' gifts of abalone, bird's nest and pork/fish floss to wish the families good health and abundance.

If you're celebrating Chinese New Year, 那就预祝您新年如意,岁岁平安.

thanks ladies!

(OEH! for those in the same time zone, why are you not asleep and surfing the net?!! tsk tsk. must reduce dark circles okay!)

those ang pows are always rather generous. so my gifts must match the value of the angpows!

i told the friends' parents to give nominal. but parents don't listen to me! many instances, the angpows more than outweigh these gifts i present to them. :(

if i give lesser gifts in return, it's like a pr exercise without substance. ;p

ok, then bring me to your friend's house.

(oh I forgot I don't qualify for ang pow *sobs*)

If you think of it from the friend's parents point of view, seeing you bringing such expensive gifts, their ang pow too have to match the value of your gifts (but usually we give back MORE just to show our appreciation)... For eg. I noticed always always, that if I give my mil RM200, she will give me back RM250. So you want to receive a smaller ang pow, give less. I think it'll work.

thank you! to health and happiness for us all.

jomel: doesn't work. tried already. right from the start, their ang pows already far outweigh any gift! their generation is one that will always earn more than we ever can. so they take us as little children forever. it started with me bringing no gifts at all except oranges. so after a couple of years of that, i feel damn pai seh lor.
