It's so difficult to buy soft toys nowadays. The new types aren't as well made as the old ones. The stitching is weird and doesn't hold strong for years. The expressions are off and plastic-ky. And of course, the fur isn't as plush and comes off rather easily.
I take a long time now to touch, feel and caress soft toys, bears mainly, before I decide whether to buy them. I need them to be cute and have the right expression before I'm even tempted. You know, to walk by a whole shelf full of teddy bears, stop in your tracks, and then fall in love with this particular one? :)
At Hamleys, I didn't exactly want a bear. But bears were everywhere I turned! Unavoidable! But if I saw something cute, then I would get it. Or some limited edition stuff that I can't resist. And by lollipops and strawberries, there was a cutie at the corner for Steiff that squeaked at me. It's from its range for babies!
How to resist? Meet my new bear. I haven't named it yet. Let's see what it looks like in a couple of days. It shall just be known as 'Checkers' for now, although that's a most unseeming name for a bear.

You need a nice British name for a nice British bear. Like Rupert or something similar.
they are cute :)
dawn: he's German though....
sinlady: rather!
your new bear is adorable.
i wouldn't be able to resist a face like that too.
tuti: i like to pick them for the expressions! if they don't have it, then i won't get them. :)
Oh! Gunter? Sebastian? Jungen? :) I'm sure his name will suggest itself to you!
