I've been hopping into plenty of coffeshops for a beautiful richly layered cup. Going without caffeine here would be too cruel. So many coffeeshops; too little time. You already know this is coffee town. One is truly spoilt for choices here. Pick any self-respecting cafe that isn't Starbucks, and a cup would be truly decent.
The man hasn't been to Slate Coffee Roasters. Had to take him to my favorite coffeshop in Seattle. A couple of cafes stock their beans, but the shop in Ballard remains the one I like. The man didn't understand why we had to make a trek out to Ballard. Eh. At least it's ostensibly to visit the friends who live a five-minute drive from Slate and also for the man to taste what we love. Ballard's one of my favorite quiet spots away from downtown Seattle. Dunno about you, but I've plenty to do here. The man loved it and asked to return the next afternoon for another cup of coffee. And the next, and the next. Heh.
I've always grabbed a piccolo latte (or an espresso with 4oz milk) to-go or just swig it on-the-spot. On the man's first visit, we had time to take a mini tasting flight. Tasted an Ethiopia Sidamo, washed, in a variety of brews- pour-over, espresso, and a deconstructed latte with warm frothy milk from grass-fed Jersey cows, a lovely hot cup using the method of 'hot blossom, cold brew', and ended with a rather weird hot chocolate thingy as 'dessert'. The man liked it. I kinda wished that wasn't the last flavor in the mouth. I'm not a fan of hot chocolate, although the chocolate-coated orange peels were rather lovely.
