[bad pic alert] Rocky Votolato finishing up his final song for the evening. |
Made it earlier to The Moore Theatre for the opening show of the evening. Heard bits of a song as we walked in. It had started. Sounded so familiar. It was Rocky Votolato on stage. Didn't know he was going to be playing. What a pleasant surprise. Heard of him from the old days of Waxwing. Kinda checked in with his albums here and there when he went fully solo in the 2000s. First time hearing him live. Cool.
Then it was Noah Gundersen who had his band The Courage, and a quartet from the Seattle Symphony playing in the show. As usual, we bought tickets at the last minute, and could only get balcony seats, but that was fine. Crappy photos, but I didn't care. Photos taken were just for the blog and to serve as a pointer for the better memories held. Could see loads. The solid hour or so of lovely sounds filled up the old theatre nicely.
Noah Gundersen has this set of fantastic vocals. Mesmerizing, bit brooding. Great lyrics. Easy melodies and chord progressions that could go a bit more complex. But whatever. Only 25 and exciting to see how his music will change over the years. Songs are great to listen to any day. He just dropped his new five-song EP 'Twenty-Something' on iTunes, as a deluxe edition of 'Ledges'. His bandmates are also family and good friends. One more guitarist whom I didn't catch the name of joined the band at this gig. Aside from the quartet, the rest on stage are Abby Gundersen on vocals and violin, and the keyboard; Travis Ehrenstrom on bass, and Ivan Gundersen on drums. Great great set.
