Wang Thai Restaurant

These few weeks' meals would have to work around allergies and avoid choosing food that might cause them to flare. To that end, Thai food couldn't feature too much in the meals because I couldn't even take too much fish sauce. :( But that lunch, I wanted some fish sauce and chilli padi. :P

Whenever I want to eat Thai food, as long as time permits, I head out to Wang Thai Restaurant (旺泰小厨) at Toa Payoh Lorong 4. The eatery has been around for a few years; people living around the area would be familiar with it. It delivers food nearby too, via foodpanda.

I really like its home-style food. I think it's run by a father-and-son team. But they might have hired cooks for some shifts. Whatever the backend logistics are, the food has been consistent so far. For now, it doesn't have a ton of salt or MSG in it, and it's wayy better than many casual Thai eateries out there. Let's hope the standard of food doesn't crash after I write this. :P

For casual meals, a good chye poh omelette and stir-fried kangkong sufficed. I gave in to temptation, went for broke and ordered tofu with salted egg yolk. Heehehehehe. Best of all, the eatery offers the option of brown rice. The man loves the minced chicken basil rice here because he could swop white rice for brown. And the eatery uses the proper holy basil instead of the Thai basil.

Tofu with salted egg yolk .
