The No-Sound-No-Picture Delayed Watson Backpack

Bought a gift for the man in the form of backing a Watson backpack on Kickstarter. He thought it looked cool. That was November 2016. It hasn't been shipped. All we've gotten, are emails from its creator Function, informing us of the numerous delays all the way from 2017 and we're mid-way through 2018. By now, each time I see an email from Watson, it's another delay, another 'we're sorry but we can't help it' and whatever pleasant corporate bullshit designed to avoid lawsuits.

Function and the Watson team, keep finding fault with the backpack, giving us details and telling us exactly what they're not happy with, and why it's going back to the production line, and state that they can't ship a sub-par product. This has gone on forever. ARRRGH. They've apparently shipped out a test batch of backpacks, found defects and halted production for the rest. This has gone on for two years. We're now at Project Update #27 dated 11 June 2018. Its tagline is 'Watson- the most efficient backpack on the planet by Function'. They should re-name the tagline to 'Function, the most inefficient design company on the planet'.

It's always dicey backing new designs or whatever on Kickstarter. Many fully-funded Kickstarter projects do run into production delays or screw up shipping. But they're mostly okay. I don't do all my shopping on Kickstarter, so it's not as though I throw all my eggs in one basket. You win some, you lose some. This Watson backpack delay takes the cake.

Either Function hires the world's most incompetent designers and picked the worst manufacturers, or they're serious perfectionists. Regardless, getting this backpack to anywhere near the next stage of shipping out the second batch seems like it will take another three years. Or five years. It might be another decade before the creators are finally pleased with it. Maybe. In the meantime, they'll keep sending out 'honest' updates and all to deflect 'cheating' accusations, trying to fulfil superficial obligations to backers. All these emails end up making backers feel damn sore about the wait. WTF. I feel like calling it the longest Kickstarter scam ever. 😠

Yes, please. Just ship the damn thing.
Every friggin email through 2017 and up till this one has rephrasing one another.

Aiyoh! Your items too! The comments on the thread are in a similar vein to mine. Haizzzzz.

This is one Kickstarter project (and the most expensive) that hasn’t materialized. We haven’t backed any other Kickstarter project since....

5 star ratings based on 7 reviews.. lol.. how are they still accepting orders when they cannot fulfill the kickstarter orders?
same issue was raised for the kin wallets.. *shake head*

GROWL. No more Kickstarter for me from now on. It used to be reliable pre 2017. :(
