We finally invited the man's parents over for dinner for the very first time. The festive season is upon us and it’s Hannukah. No better time than to cook them a meal. They know that we cook, and have tasted our food. But they’ve never actually sat down to a meal cooked by us, specially for them.
We absolutely refuse to cook what the parentals usually eat at home. Our kitchen serves up different types of food. They have seriously conservative tastebuds, and with all sorts of dietary preferences, and a low tolerance for spices and chilli (yet want to see eight dishes on the table), the man and I were at a loss as to what to cook for them. We were almost tempted to just feed them matzo balls soup, with bread and butter, and maybe takeout margherita pizza. 🤪 #ImpieCooks2018
Decided on a menu of beef curry, sweet and sour chicken, mustard greens with dried mushrooms, and seared baby asparagus and Kenyan fine beans. We don’t stock white jasmine rice at home, and the parentals can't adapt to brown rice, so we used basmati for this meal. When I learnt that the girlfriend was baking that morning, I shamelessly asked for a small loaf of homebaked country style bread from her oven. Teeheheheh. She makes good bread. This loaf went winningly with the beef curry. The dad's a bread monster and he loved it that there was this unexpected cute loaf of delicious bread for him to mop up the curry with.
