Soup at Wah Lok

V and R bought me dinner at Wah Lok! Wheeeeee! The weather had been searing, but I was totally in the mood for a steaming bowl of soup. Heh. I had downed plenty of water, but I still felt dehydrated. Opted for a comforting bowl of shredded melon and spare ribs goodness. Exactly what I needed. We didn't over-order. Everything that appeared on the table was welcomed and eaten. The appetizer of rolled-up pork belly with cucumber in garlic sauce (蒜泥白肉) hit a spot. Skipped the rice. Had a main of lobster vermicelli, and sides of stir-fried broccoli and braised beef in soy with a ton of spring onions.

Dinner was so satisfying. It wasn't a special occasion. We just wanted to get together. These are best sort of dates when we make the effort to keep to it every other week, or find a slot in between everyone's crazy schedules. The whole point is the make time for one another. Maintaining a friendship takes effort and hopefully happy energy. It can only be done if both parties are on the same thought wavelength. I met V very much later in my early thirties, and I want to keep this jewel in my life for a long time more. 😬😂 When our values and principles on life matters and thingamajigs align, we are friends because we want to be. As such, the effort taken to keep in touch feels effortless.

We didn't bother with having alcohol with dinner. Chinese restaurants offer the most limited options of beer (Tiger or Heineken; and if we're really lucky, Asahi or Sapporo) and a horrendously priced wine list. I could hang out a little longer, and after dinner, there was even time to adjourn for a pleasant glass of wine across the road, and chat a little longer before we went our separate ways.

Oh the dishes especially the rolled up pork belly look yummy. I always associate Wah Lok with dim sum.

oddly i've never had dim sum here! i keep turning up at nights! if it's lunch, it's usually a work lunch where we just pre-order easy dishes.
