A Rice Cooker

Laughed and laughed and laughed when the BFF said she wanted a rice cooker for her birthday. Okaaaay, can. Her birthday isn't till mid April. But we're in a national lockdown limbo. She could do with a new rice cooker immediately since her old one went bonkers because it has been used a lot more. She's grounded in Singapore now and is cooking daily.

Two weeks ago, before further restrictions were announced, I put on a mask and toddled off to Tangs and got the rice cooker and even had a 12% rebate although they said the rebate was only offered for online purchases. As much as I prefer shopping online, I didn't mind heading out this afternoon. It took me only 20 minutes to make the purchase. Hurrah. The streets and the malls were gloriously empty. Tangs had locked up many of its exits and entrances, leaving access to the mall only via the main street level entrance, carpark via level 3, and basement area to MRT trains. Of course by today, every mall and store is shut.

At that point, the BFF had had a long week of working from home, and she didn't have much time to pop in to the supermarket to get weekly essentials. Neither was she lucky with Redmart or PrimeNow slots. Since we were talking about Aunty things, I might as well go the whole hog. Since I already do it for my old folks, I also went shopping for essentials for the BFF. Hahaha. I was a little luckier with Redmart slots — secured a truckload of items for two deliveries, and also physically went to the supermarkets to get stuff.

We're not so bothered about bread and fresh foods because those are still plentiful. We wanted to stock up on cooking ingredients and household cleaning items because they kept flying off the shelves till there were few opportunities to snag them unless I made a concerted effort to hunt them down. So I did. Skipped the rice. The BFF isn't big on rice. Her current stash will last her for six months. Bought the quota allocated for toilet paper and handed them all over to the BFF, along with boxes of pasta and bottles of sauces and such. Hurhurhur.

What a lovely birthday present :)

My parents got a few cans of sardines and some onions that could be added to the sardine when heating up.

@cavalock: hurhurhur Gotta keep busy we all! Oh- I’ve always hoarded Cirio and especially Mutti canned tomatoes becasue they’re seriously tough to hunt down.

@coboypb: staple foods! And a good source of protein.
