Tanglin Gin & Spices

The man cooked up chunky dhal and aloo gobi for dinner. He made them spicy. Woohoo. I love these with a punch. His ingredients are usually meant for four to five people in order to achieve optimal flavors. Cooked 2.5 cups of rice and portioned out some for our neighbors. Then kept a batch of basmati and dhal for our freezer. Spicy food always goes well with gin, so we took out a brand new bottle to taste.

Opened up the bottle of Tanglin Gin gifted by the friends. They had cleverly chosen the 58% ABV 'The Black Powder' as a birthday gift for the man. #SupportLocal The bottle arrived along with four bottles of aromatic tonic. The brand described the pairing as, "The bruised juniper, whole fresh oranges from our punchy navy-strength Gin go wonderfully with the cardamom, pimento berry and ginger from the Aromatic Tonic." The gin is pretty good. Well, I'm certainly not a fan of that tonic water. I do boring London drys with plain light mediterranean tonic water.

Then, there was a nice little slice of Berry cheesecake for dessert. I was eyeing the limited edition Berry cheesecake from LeTAO. They claimed to use real strawberries and raspberries. Whatever. I didn't mind it because it isn't too sweet, and the whole cake comes in a manageable size for two people. It kept well frozen for the month until we thawed it out in the fridge. The man is a dessert monster, and he really wanted some cake, in addition to all the banana bread, egg tarts and sugared nonsense that were already sitting in the fridge.
