買臘腸膶腸

Made a lunch + coffee date with the BFF. Strolled in to an uncrowded Man Man Unagi at The Central Mall at Clarke Quay. What a pleasant surprise. The other outlets always have a snaking queue. The BFF loves grilled unagi. Ugh. I’m not the biggest fan of unagi because of those tiny soft bones. But I’ll manage. My unagi-don came with negitoro. I passed over a few pieces of unagi to the BFF and ate all the negitoro

Luckily it was a day when the sun was out and it wasn't chucking down rain. It would have been miserable walking around with soaked shoes. We chose this lunch venue for its proximity to Teck Sang (德生) on 11 Hong Kong Street. The point of our date today was to buy lupcheong (臘腸) and yuncheong (膶腸) from Teck Sang, and in a few weeks or so, cook it up and do a taste test to see if they’re worthy substitutes to our usual Hong Kong preserved sausages.

I've bought some stuff from them, walked by countless times on my way to the now-defunct Ronin. But I've never bought preserved sausages from them. Many people recommended this local brand since we aren't buying enough to import from our desired traditional dried goods shops in Hong Kong. The shop hasn't renovated much. It still bears the fluorescent lights and naked walls, and the shop space is filled with dried goods. Felt a little bit like the messy and chaotic shops in Hong Kong. The only difference- it has added on a wide repertoire of nuts and dried fruits, including chia seeds. Heh.

Haha I just got a few packs of their soup mixes! What a coincidence. Hopefully those dried sausages pass muster for you, for now!
