The Holi Menu at Tiffin Room

Bought the man one more birthday meal at Tiffin Room at Raffles Hotel. We rarely stop by because there're quite a number of good South Indian restaurants which satisfy the man's tastebuds, and I usually prefer Kerala cuisine. Tiffin Room put out a festive menu for Holi from 18-31 March, and I knew that the man would love their take on the dishes.

The best part about an Indian meal, the vegetarian dishes would be gorgeous and one could decide on that right before dinner instead of having to 'advise' the chef the week prior. Of course I opted for vegetarian, and the man was happy to taste the meats. The dinner began beautifully with two appetizers for us. There was a delicious chilled tawa aloo fruit chaat, and warm kebabs — cod for the man (methi macchi tikka), and mine was a fabulous spinach and yellow lentil with cranberries and cheese (hara bhara kebab)

The mains came beautifully presented in their tiffin carriers, then neatly placed on the table. While the portions weren't that big, they were more than sufficient for the both of us. Meats of prawn, chicken and lamb arrived for the man. And a spinach dal for us both in the form of sarson ka saag

The dal makhani was lacklustre for me though. It didn't match up to many of the good versions. I didn't quite fancy this. Thankfully the gucchi dahi curry (morel and white button mushrooms with yogurt gravy) more than made up for that. That was quite the star of the meal for me. Carbs for the night came in the form of cumin rice, naan, garlic naan, makki di roti (a sort of crisp cornbread) and papadum with chutney. Hungry people might want more rice or naan to soak up all the curry and gravy!

The man was most pleased with dessert — gulab jamun with mawa pista gujia. Luckily for him, the dessert didn't come in a regular ball size of a gulab jamun, so it was less of a sugar bomb. Erm... less guilt, perhaps? No dessert for me. I slid my platter over to the man. He merrily ate my portion too. Hahahaha.
