With all its varied casual restaurants and eateries, Katong is a convenient dinner spot for us. Its 'kopitiams' with beers have become one of our to-go when we want beer and dinner. Decided to stop by Pigsfly Kitchen & Bar for dinner that night. It's is cute coffeeshop that offers beer and a few different food stalls- Indian food, Thai spices, pizza and burgers.
That night, we felt like some casual Thai food. Run by Blue Elephant, the Thai food isn't the best, but it works for a casual dinner. The foods aren't spicy, but you could always ask for an additional bowl of fish sauce and chilli padi. I very much prefer the Thai food stall here than the fusion version at AlibabaR down the road at the corner.
Had steamed jasmine rice along with basil minced chicken, garlic pork and som tam. Portions are big though. A la carte dishes feed two diners, or three if you order more items. The man didn't mind his minced chicken; at least they used the right basil leaves and a nice soy sauce. I really liked the garlic pork because the kitchen sliced it thin and used a lean cut of meat. Upon serving, the dish was topped with a generous heap of fried garlic. Lovely.
I blinked at the size of the som tam. It came in what seemed like a small paella pan! It might well be the biggest portion of som tam I've ever had! The larb (with a choice of pork or chicken) is also served in the same-sized pan. Luckily we didn't order any vegetables, so finishing this amount of som tam wasn't an issue. It was okay, decent with its flavors but not spicy at all. Had to ask for extra fish sauce and chilli padi to add to the tangy stuff and also for my garlic pork.
