We were invited to Dearborn's Friends & Family Day at their cafe New Bahru. We snucked Choya in because this would be the only time she's allowed indoors, before the official opening this coming weekend. She was good as gold and won over many hearts. Ooof.
The food menu at Dearborn New Bahru is so fun! Living up to the owners' desire 'not to offer the usual Singapore cafe-brunch foods', we see steel cut oatcongee (steel-cut oats), duck and hash, pork burger (on a sweet potato roll), dips of spiced whipped eggplant, and spiced harissa and carrot with crisp curry leaves. All of these are GORGEOUS.
We ate SO MUCH. Had the dips with pita instead of sourdough bread. The duck and hash was really quite fun. I just like the hash brown though. Hahahaha. I'm in love with the savory seafood congee, although I had to take an antihistamine, because raw scallops and prawns. I love breakfast porridge done this way.
Coffee and tea are fine, and the surprise — they have soba-cha. Wheeeee. I stuck to a standard iced black coffee and a house citrus soda after. I was sooo embarrassed because I didn't realize everything today was on the house! They really meant it when they said they were doing this for Friends & Family. Awwwwww. That's toooo sweet.
Congratulations, Dearborn New Bahru! It's a big step to another chapter of realizing your dreams!
