The Pasta at the Revamped Bar Cicheti Is Still Great

We didn't go to Bar Cicheti because of its revamped menu or a facelift to its decor. We went for its dependable pastas and we kinda needed a good plate of carbs after a super long day at work. J was definitely in the mood to eat. J needed CARBS. I think the demands of work calls didn't even let her sneak in any sort of lunch today.

I have to confess that I didn't like its selection of nihonshu. I'm not familiar with the breweries but didn't bother to google. I asked the sommelier. He explained that they're dry but they lean sweet. I tried a glass anyway. OMG. They do run sweet. NO. I scanned their whisky list by the glass. Even those run sweet. Think Balvenie Doublewood 12 y.o and Nikka. There's nothing peated on the list. AIYOH. Okay, as what I've always thought, just stick to having wine when we're here. Except I never really want wine unless the entire table is drinking. My default is a whisky, preferably peated.

Requested for our starter of 'Salumi' to be all prosciutto instead. Hahaha. We aren't fond of mortadella or culatello. The squares of Philibon melon were lovely. Shellfish is always nice lah, so had a bowl of Manila clams and blue mussels with chilli, scallions, butter, lemon and basil

J would rarely move away from an iteration of cacio e pepe. She had the smoked rigatoni cacio e pepe. I had the gnocchetti con salsiccia. Ahhh... our pasta were excellent! They do do pasta very well here. Pasta isn't just pasta. It's also split into casual and slightly more elegant. This is not your US$12 pasta lunch bowls. If you think pasta should all be at this price, then maybe your tastebuds and opinions can stick to having all pastas at this price and standards. Some days I want those US$12 bowls. Sometimes I want them S$25 bowls. Tonight, I wanted something really decent. I got it.

Skipped all the dessert here. Strolled over to Birds of Paradise for J to satisfy a craving for a scoop of white chrysanthemum.
