David Gilmour :: Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome (on IMAX)

I haven't stepped into a cinema for ages. Like years. Since the husband is on a Pink Floyd roll, he insisted on catching 'David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome' (2025) at a Shaw Theatre. Yes, a film. Only Shaw cinemas in Singapore are showing the film. We don't have many cinema brands left in town.

It was just a a tad annoying because this film is only shown on an IMAX screen, and only Shaw would bring in it, and scheduled the showing only on this specific date. No options, no farther choices. I had to shift things around and cancel a dinner because the husband insisted on me going along, and promptly booked the tickets within three minutes of talking about the film, ignoring my, 'let me get back to you'.

Directed by Gavin Elder and produced by Dione Orrom, the film showcased David Gilmour's performance at the venue in Rome on his 'Luck and Strange' tour in 2024. That tour spanned 23 dates in five cities and they were all instantly sold out. Shown at an IMAX cinema, I suppose this is why people would watch the 2hr 29min concert. It's the closest thing we get to being in Rome, and seeing David Gilmour play 'live'. The husband couldn't pass up the opportunity to watch it on a big screen rather than on Netflix before another music legend passes. I can understand why. But I don't share his enthusiasm.

I'm not a fan of Pink Floyd, although I did grow up listening to their songs because my dad and everyone else's parents are playing it when I visited. I most certainly don't care about David Gilmour, although the 79-year-old is quite the music legend. He was joined by Adam Betts on drums and percussion, Rob Gentry on keyboards and vocals, Greg Phillinganes on keyboard, piano and vocals, Guy Pratt on bass, string bass and vocals, and Ben Worsley on guitars, slide guitar and vocals.

David Gilmour's daughter Romany Gilmour is a musician. She joined him on this tour as well. There were the Webb sistersHattie and Charley. There was also Louise Marshall. Together, they are Marshall GIlmour Webbs. Vocals, harps, ukelele, guitars and the piano. They make truly wonderful music.
